How exciting!
The "Green Tea with Marilee Podcast Show" is launching during National Nurses Week!
Since I've been a Holistic Nurse for most of my nursing career I can't think of anyone better to join me in this launch other than Barbara Dossey PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN.
Barbie and Marilee at a American Holistic Nurses Conference
Barbie has had such a huge impact on nursing - reminding us all of
Florence Nightingale's work in her latest book:
Florence Nightingale: Mystic, Visionary, Healer
Barbie's earlier books include:
--Holistic Nursing: A Handbook for Practice
--AHNA Standards of Holistic Nursing
--AHNA Core Curriculum for Holistic Nursing (editor);
--AACN Handbook of Critical Care Nursing
--Rituals of Healing
--Profiles of Nurse Healers

This week is National Nurses Week and I hope you thank a nurse at least once a day.
That may sound like a silly request but after having been a nurse for 30 years with ample experience in a hospital setting (although most of my career I've been a Holistic Nurse), I can assure you - it is a "thankless" job.
Nurses = under appreciated and (I think) underpaid!
That is why I am passionate about helping to empower nurses to incur
another stream of income as a nurse infopreneur!
So here is a great way to thank a nurse. . .

Hey - my favorite here is the "Martini tote" - not that I drink martinis (yuck) but I love the green color of the bag! (hint, hint)
Nurses need more care than most people because they often put others needs before their own.
Self care is very important to nurses, and many nurses need to be coached on self care - or at least given an opportunity for it.
Join me on Monday night, May 12th, as I have tea with one of my holistic nursing colleagues and a good girlfriend, Chris Jackson, PhD, RN. Chris teaches nursing and holistic nursing at Eastern College in Philadelphia.
We will discuss Self Care, give some tips, and maybe even get a little personal on how we, as Holistic Nurses, take care of ourselves.
Here is the link to join for free and listen to our Tea Talk on Self Care:

She is named after her birthplace, Florence, Grand Duchy of Tuscany (Italy).
Her father tutored her in mathmatics and statistics.
She did a statistical analysis of sanitation in India.
Was the first female to be elected to Royal Statistical Society.
Defied her extremely wealthy family and upper class conventions in choosing to become a nurse in 1845.
Most famous for her care of soldiers during the Crimean War, Nightingale entered Turkey in 1854 with 38 nurses she personally trained.
Nightingale's first evidence-based practice research involved collecting evidence that poor living conditions were the cause of most soldier deaths during the Crimean War.
The Times of London named Nightingale "the lady with the lamp."
The U.S. government consulted Nightingale on setting up military hospitals during the Civil War.
Because she was a woman she could not serve on the British Royal Commission on the Health of the Army even though she played a critical role in its formation.
What is now the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery, part of King's College London, was established by her to train nurses in 1860.
Notes on Nursing also sold well as a popular book in the 1860s.
In 1867, poet Henry Longfellow's poem "Santa Filomena" further ensured Nightingale's image with the lines, "Lo! In that hour of misery A lady with a lamp I see Pass through the glimmering gloom."
In the 1870s, Nightingale trained Linda Richards, the first formally trained American nurse.
Grab some green tea and sit with us and listen to our conversational tips on Self Care.
On this show myself and Christine Jackson PhD, RN shared tips in a "Tea Talk" about self care for nurses and other caregivers.
It can be a daily struggle to give ourselves good care - but listen in to some tips and techniques (like getting in a good healthy breakfast in a hurry) on this show!
A nurse or a caregiver can not give from an empty vessel!
It is our duty to take care of ourselves - first for ourselves, and then for others.
A great analogy is the oxygen masks on an airplane. We've got to put on ours first before we can help others!
"Green Tea with Marilee" is for anyone interested in natural health and healing, so why am I writing about nurses so much?
Let me explain. . . in bullets ~
--The month of May started with National Nurses Week and many of my readers are nurses
--Barbie Dossey (holistic nurse) who kicked off this show and her husband Larry Dossey are leaders in the field of holistic health and alternative medicine and are known throughout the country - Holistically oriented health care professionals CAN influence and help direct people interested in natural healing
--We all need self care - but caregivers like nurses, healers, and others in service - usually need it more than anyone! Last weeks theme on Self Care (Tea Talk with Chris Jackson) was imperative for all of us!
--Forthcoming shows will give nurses and others a great insight into the evolving world of natural health. Many nurses are leaning towa rd holistic healing (interview with Lucia Thornton President of the American Holistic Nurses Association) and what we see as nurses going into business for themselves (interview with Pat Bemis, President of the National Nurses in Business Association)is having and will be having a great impact on the emerging health care model for all of us - nurses and health care consumers alike!
Next month we move to a different focus - using therapeutic grade essential oils for health and life!
Hang around long enough here with me at "Green Tea with Marilee" and you will see it will all blend together!
This is a great show where I interviewed Lucia Thorton, President of The American Holistic Nurses Association!
Meet Pat Bemis and learn about the National Nurses in Business Association!
I loved doing this interview because I am passionate about this topic!
Listen in and learn about this organization and what it can do for you.
Do you want to write a book? start a practice? go into business for yourself?
You MUST listen to this show!

Learn About Holistic Nursing! With President of the American Holistic Nurses Association, Lucia M. Thornton.
|
A Quote from Lucia. . .
"When a critical mass of nurses align themselves with healing, the
profession as a whole will be transformed. Nursing will then
embrace the mission intended by it's founder, Florence Nightingale,
and become the discipline that is the bearer of Light in society.
Working to create that awareness among nurses, schools, and
healthcare organizations is part of the mission of the AHNA*, and
one that I am honored to be a part of"
